Some French Brothers were called to Estavayer, on the east bank of Lake Neuchâtel. They opened a school there en 1750 and, up to now, the presence of the Brothers in the French speaking Cantons has continued almost without interruption. The German Brothers have had an establishment in the German speaking area: at first in Immensee (1904-1920), then in Knutwil (1926-1972).
