Some French Brothers coming from the Réunion Island, where the Brothers have been working since 1817, open a first school in Madagascar in 1866. There is no common language for the entire island of Madagascar. The term «malagasy» used in this catalogue designates any of the languages spoken on the island and used for the publication of some manuals by the Brothers.
