ABSTRACT

Speaker: Hal Berghel

TITLE: The Forthcoming Digital Tsunami

The ubiquity of the Internet and centrality of information technology in modern organizations has radically and irreversibly altered the nature and effectiveness of our work as well as the way that we manage information. There are legions of people, from individual hackers to state-sponsored terrorists, who are working at this very moment to tear down our IT infrastructure and steal or destroy our most important information assets.

This talk will explain some of the strategies and tactics that are currently in use. Interactive demonstrations will include both offensive strategies (e.g., hacking into a secure wireless network) and defensive strategies (e.g., protecting the provenance of information assets with digital watermarks). We'll also discuss the tsunami of next-generation, destructive malware that is coming our way in the impending Digital Pearl Harbor.

We'll conclude with some possible risk management strategies that we can use to help secure our most important information assets.
